She has worked in engineering, computing, contract catering and local government, as well as being a practicing HR consultant, serving small to medium sized businesses. She has had personal experience of handling redundancies.

As a university lecturer, she worked with hundreds of undergraduates preparing them to deal with staff issues when they entered the workplace. She also led short courses for practicing managers to advise and train them on a range of HR matters including how to handle redundancies.
